The EUGMS and the European Union

 

The EUGMS Policy Working Group

EUGMS started its EU level policy activities in January 2004, with the aim to put geriatric medicine and care on the EU political agenda and to raise awareness of the importance of the medical specialization. The intention was for EUGMS to take a pro-active role, implementing concrete strategic and practical activities in many different areas, in line with relevant EU policy developments.

 

Since 2004, a wide variety of activities has been carried out:

EU newsletters

The EUGMS keeps an open eye on developments and new inititiaves taken by the EU concerning geriatrics in Europe. To keep you up to date with information relevant to the field of health and health services in older people in Europe you can read the newsletters here.

EMEA

The EUGMS is represented in the European Medicines Evaluation Agency, EMEA, by Executive Board representative Prof. Jean-Pierre Baeyens (BE). His task is to ensure that older people are appropriately considered in medication regulation, as well as to participate in EU developments on care of older people.
