Clinical and epidemiological background, aims, current project and futures perspectives

Objectives

Main objectives:

  • To define a current epidemiology of valvular heart disease in oldest old
  • To investigate different clinical features of valvular heart disease in oldest old
  • To develop an observational study on atypical presentation and different natural history of aortic stenosis in the oldest old
  • To develop an interventional study on nutritional preload in cardiac surgery in elderly and malnourished people

Secondary objectives:

  • Mitralic regurgitation in elderly; current epidemiology and new treatment options (trans catheter treatment is developing in the next future).
  • To define a current epidemiology of triscuspid regurgitation in elderly and the relationship between chronic pulmonary microembolism, pulmonary hypertension and tricuspid regurgitation

  • Publication of final results of CGA TAVI-Registry 
  • European survey about Geriatricians' involvement in medical management of Aortic Stenosis
  • To develop a comprehensive score for the assessment of TAVI patient prognosis
  • To start an observational study on atypical presentation and different natural history of aortic stenosis in the oldest old
  • To develop an interventional study on nutritional preload in cardiac surgery in elderly and malnourished people
