EuGMS President 2004-2025 - Season greetings

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

As we approach the close of another year, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude and pride for the remarkable progress and achievements of the European Geriatric Medicine Society (EuGMS). Together, we have continued to grow as a leading society in geriatric medicine, not only in Europe but far beyond, fostering new collaborations, expanding our network, and strengthening our impact globally.

This year has seen extraordinary contributions from our Special Interest Groups (SIGs), Early-career Geriatricians Initiative (ECGI) and Global Europe Initiative (GEI) which have provided invaluable scientific input and successfully attracted younger clinicians and researchers. Their work ensures that EuGMS remains dynamic and forward-looking, firmly positioned as a beacon for innovation in geriatric medicine.

Our Annual Congress in Valencia was a resounding success, showcasing the best of our collective expertise and engagement. We now eagerly anticipate the next milestone: our congress in Reykjavik, which promises to be another exceptional event. We hope to welcome even more participants from overseas, further broadening the international reach of our society.

I am equally proud of the progress we have made in strengthening society’s infrastructure. The forthcoming launch of our new website will serve as a vital resource and communication platform, and the development of a new congress organization template reflects our commitment to enhancing professionalism, innovation and cooperation in all our activities.

These achievements would not have been possible without the unwavering dedication of our Executive and Academic Board members, our Secretariat, and our PCO Aristea. Their efforts have helped EuGMS rise to the challenges of our time, offering relevant and innovative content while upholding values such as sustainability, solidarity, and complementarity—principles that are also emphasized in the COST Action PROGRAMMING, for which EuGMS proudly serves as a Grant Holder.

As we look forward to 2025, I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to each of you for your contributions to our shared mission. Let us continue to build on this momentum, advancing the field of geriatric medicine and strengthening the bonds within our community.

Wishing you all a peaceful—in every sense of the word—and prosperous New Year.

With warm regards and gratitude,

Prof. Mirko Petrovic
