Other activities

Founded in 1986 by a group of hospital geriatricians, SIGOT holds its annual national congress in May or June. SIGOT has established regional sections in 18 of the 21 Italian regions and each regional section organizes a SIGOT regional congress each year. A representative of SIGOT is actually involved in a committee within the Italian Health Ministry designed to release an evidence-based document on the best standards of care for older persons in the hospital and in the community. In the last years, SIGOT has published some important studies regarding the functional trajectories of hospitalized older patients from the Progetto Dimissioni in Geriatria (ProDiGe) Study, organized by the Society.
