FAR SIGHT 3 - Frailty and Resilience SIG Hot Topic

We are glad to invite you to the third meeting of FAR SIGHT - Frailty and Resilience SIG Hot Topic -

The project consists of bimonthly open online meetings with SIG members (and others Participants) to discuss relevant developments and papers related to intrinsic capacity, frailty and resilience.

The meetings are organised in a journal club format to exhaustively discuss a paper, after an introduction by one of the authors.

FAR SIGHT 3 will be held on Monday May 24th at 4pm (CEST) - 60 min -

Topic title - Frailty and depression: Reciprocal influences or common causes?

The presentation will focus on the interplay between physical and mental health among older adults. Specifically, we wanted to know whether frailty and depression reciprocally influence each other over the course of time or whether they rather represent different domains of the same underlying construct. To answer this question, we modelled longitudinal data of 58,000 older adults 50+ from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) with a multilevel structural equation approach that allowed separating within- and between-person effects.

The paper will be presented by Erwin Stolz, a post-doctoral researcher at the Institute of Social Medicine and Epidemiology at the Medical University of Graz in Austria. He does gerontological and epidemiological research focusing on describing, explaining, and predicting health changes among the general older population. Specifically, he works on long- and short-term changes in frailty, intrinsic capacity, disability, depression, and loneliness to better understand trajectories of ageing.

So Join us!
Be on time, mute your microphone when you're not talking and enjoy this moment with your colleagues! We hope to engage you in discussion after the presentation, so you are stimulated to read the paper and prepare questions and your discussion points. At the beginning of the meeting we will provide some further guidance on how to organize the discussion.
