FAR SIGHT 7 - Frailty and Resilience SIG Hot Topic

Dear Colleagues,

A new year and new calendar of meetings for FAR SIGHT - Frailty and Resilience SIG Hot Topic!

We have now reached the 7th appointment of these bimonthly open online meetings with SIG members (and others Participants) to discuss relevant developments and papers related to intrinsic capacity, frailty and resilience.
The meetings are organised in a journal club format to exhaustively discuss a paper, after an introduction by one of the authors.

FAR SIGHT 7 will be held on Monday March 28th, 2022 at 4pm (CEST) – 60 min –

This time the presentation will focus on two research paper:

Title -   J Neurol Neurosurg Psychiatry

And

Title - Aging Medicine

"Ken will review two recent papers (December 2021) in which he has had a hand. One is from the UK Biobank published in JNNP) and the other from the Rush Memory and Aging Project  (Aging Medicine). They show that the expression of either neuropathology (Rush-MAP), or genetic risk (UK BB) depends on the degree of frailty. Taken together with several reports about how frailty affects risk of cardiovascular illnesses, a new picture of late-life disease is emerging.  Although frailty itself is not a disease, it affects how disease risk is expressed. In late-life dementia this extends to the risks for genes and neuropathology. Genes and neuropathology have had semi-sacred status in Alzheimer disease, especially for people who believe it to arise as a result of a single protein abnormality, even if they will vigorously dispute just which protein is implicated. Instead, Ken will argue that, just as "the problems of old age come as a package" (to quote Luigi Fontana) we should not ignore their joint contributions in late-life illness."

The papers will be presented by Kenneth Rockwood is a geriatrician with a keen interest in frailty and dementia. He lives in Halifax Nova Scotia, where he is Professor of Medicine , and the Kathryn Allen Weldon Professor of Alzheimer Research at Dalhousie University. An active staff  physician with Nova Scotia Health, he also leads the Frailty and Elder Care Network."

So Join us!

Be on time, mute your microphone when you're not talking and enjoy this moment with your colleagues! We hope to engage you in discussion after the presentation, so you are stimulated to read the paper and prepare questions and your discussion points. At the beginning of the meeting we will provide some further guidance on how to organize the discussion.
