Biology Of Ageing

Aims: 

The SIG on Biology of Ageing aims at:

• Providing their members an opportunity to network with other members in order to make valuable contacts, enhance the discussion of challenging issues, and to facilitate the exchange of advances in the field of aging biology

• Supporting their members in the development of policy positions as well as scientific papers in the field of aging biology

• Promoting the role, influence and importance of aging biology in the EuGMS and other national societies of geriatrics

• Disseminating expertise and knowledge in aging biology, starting from the experience of existing excellence research laboratories in Europe

• Participate in European clinical and translational research programs

• Define the opitmal technics to quantify/analyze aging pathway and markers

• Identifying aging and frailty (clinical) biomarkers: build European cohorts and biobank

• Exchange of students: PhDs, Post-Docs…

• Create a European diploma on aging biology: Master degree? Erasmus Mundus?

 

Relevance for the purposes of the EuGMS:

• Give to EuGMS an international leadership in aging biology field

• Need to better mix fundamental research on aging biology and clinical research and practicing

• Need to increase the link between geriatric syndromes and basic biology

• Need to increase research student exchanges

• Find biomarkers of frailty and aging

Expected method of work:

• Define the objectives and their priorities in accordance with the expertise of the SIG members

• Register (list) of experts on aging biology in Europe

• Establishment of T&F Groups

• Apply to national European and international grants

• One aging biology SIG meetings per year) during the annual EuGMS meeting

 

First expected outcome and approximate date of completion:

• First aging biology SIG meeting during EuGMS 2020

• Exchange of students starting in 2020-21

• Webinars 2021

• One publication per year mentioning the present EuGMS SIG (first in 2021)
